Inverness,
the capital of the Highlands, stands on the River Ness
with lovely walks along the riverside. It forms an excellent
base for touring the Highlands and with the new bridge
to the Isle of Skye now open a return day trip to Skye
is easily manageable. The seaside towns of Nairn and Findhorn
to the east and Fortrose and Rosemarkie on the Black Isle
to the north are all within 45 minutes drive. Dolphins
can be often be seen at Rosemarkie and there are boat
trips available to see the dolphins at closer range. There
are also boat trips down the Caledonian canal to Loch
Ness where there is always the chance of spotting the
Loch Ness Monster!
Golf is available
at various courses throughout the area. There are three
courses in Inverness and two championship courses at Nairn
(30 minutes drive) and Royal Dornoch (45 minutes drive).
Fishing and hill/forest walking are also available.
Visit the
battlefield at Culloden, scene of the last civil battle
fought on British soil in 1746; the standing stones at
Clava; the castles at Cawdor, Brodie or Castle Stuart;
or the outstanding Fort George.

what your taste there is something for everyone.
